While an American launch is doubtful, Ford has officially announced plans to offer the Focus RS in Australia.
Available in a single "comprehensively-equipped specification", the Aussie RS features a turbocharged Duratec RS 2.5-liter engine with 224 kW (300 hp / 305 PS) and 440 Nm (324 lb-ft) of torque. Other goodies include a sports suspension (with RevoKnuckle technology), a 'Quaife Automatic Torque Biasing Helical' Limited Slip Differential, a high-performance braking system, xenon headlights, rear parking sensors, and 19-inch alloy wheels outfitted with Continental tires. Inside, the cabin has Recaro sports seats, dual zone climate control, and an eight-speaker Sony audio system (with a six-disc CD player and a USB input).
According to Marin Burela, Ford Australia President & CEO, "The buzz and excitement surrounding Focus RS has spread rapidly around the globe since it was introduced in Europe early last year, winning a host of motoring awards and receiving widespread critical acclaim for its outstanding combination of high-performance road car technology and every day Focus practicality. Now it is poised to conquer the Australia market, setting a new benchmark for hot hatch performance in this country and creating a whole new generation of performance car enthusiasts in the process."
Priced from $59,990 AUD ($54,675 USD / €41,835), only 315 units will be imported.
